Today, in the 14th ScienceBeer, Clemens was our Science Brewer. Clemens is a PhD student in TU-Dresden and works on Structural Analysis. Clemens described how we can analyze wooden structures. The natural wooden structures are often non-uniform and therefore simulating them requires deep understanding about anomalies and defomrmations in the common structure pattenrs. Knots are one of the very common form of anomalies. Clemens explained that it is usually possible to consider a knot as a second branch which is nested in the original branch. We also learned about other properties of woods, e.g., wood types and how we can differenciate between soft/hard woods. Thank you Clemens.
